I thought that I was going to have a difficult time finding an article this week, because last weeks assignment was a bit frustrating for me. However, I actually found a great article fairly quickly. The article that I ended up using was a great article about the research, study, and effects of Applied Behavior Analysis on actual individuals with intellectual disabilities. It was very informative and provided great insight to my topic. I learned about a certain type of therapy that is used in behavior intervention- redirection. From my understanding, this seemed like a very effective tool used in behavior intervention. Also, this led me to the possibility of changing my researching question. I think I would like my question to include the search of different types of behavior intervention for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Also for future research, I’d really like to get more comfortable using the Letherby site. Each week I feel that I have learned new tools in conducting online research, and I feel that getting a firm grasp on the Letherby site will serve me well while at Brandman. This weeks assignment made me realize that there is a great deal more that I need to learn and understand. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks and getting an even better understanding.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the research question that was approved last week? I understand that you are thinking of changing it, or maybe tweaking it a little, but what is your current research focused on?
Your blog in Week 1 indicates that your general area of interest is behavioral analysis and that you currently work with people who have developmental disabilities which you find rewarding because you are able to help them cope with some of their stresses and anxieties.
Are you working with children or adults, and is your research specific to children or adults? I assume that the techniques used in your work would be different depending on the age group the therapist is working with. Week 4 sounds like it was productive because you were able to find peer-reviewed articles that examined both the effectiveness and weaknesses of behavioral analysis.
Did you find an empirical article for his week’s assignment? You said that you found information that was “very informative and provided great insight to my topic” and that the source provided information “about the research, study, and effects of Applied Behavior Analysis on actual individuals with intellectual disabilities”. You mentioned that you found information about a specific type of therapy – redirection. That sounds like a great technique which would probably be very effective.
Because this last article is such a great resource I bet that it will help guide future searches. I suggest you look at the references listed in this article, there may be other authors interested in your research topic and there may be some specific articles that might be worth looking at.
And you found a specific type of therapy you could investigate further which might introduce you to different ideas to research. Additionally the article you found in Week 4, which examined both the strengths and weaknesses of behavioral therapy sounds like a good place to use as a jumping off point to find more articles about behavioral therapy in general.

I had such a difficult time trying to figure out what website to use and also doubting myself on the research process. I am glad that you where able to find an article fast.Reading your post I see that you work with people with disabilities are you working with kids? It seems like you have a very interesting topic.There is so much information that is helpful on the Leatherby Library. Good Luck on your research
